Child?related family policies in East and Southeast Asia: An intra?regional comparison

Over the past five decades, dramatic demographic and socio-economic changes have taken place in East Southeast Asian countries, with important implications for family its future. Still, little is known about typical configurations of state support families these countries. We examine governments’ strategies supporting reducing cost children. Employing hierarchical cluster analysis, we uncover four distinctive policy profiles—maternity support, poverty-relief employment-oriented encompassing support—and discuss their implication defamilialisation. What appears less clear are drivers behind such configurations, but there indications that fertility concerns, cultural fabric a country productivist profile social regime seem to influence orientation models. Overall, development Asia seems be fragmented characterised by parallel interventions different types provenance.
